October 2015-Thank you to all the folks who donated supplies from the wish list to the art programs. The students will enjoy using them to create their works.
November 2015-A recent additions included 13 knitting needles at BAGS. I had 4 students start knitting just before the Thanksgiving break. Thank you so much.
November 2015-The Centers that have been introduced so far are: Drawing, Collage, Painting, and Printmaking.
November 2015-The Units of Study are: Is It Art?, What Is the Artist's Intention?, Using the 5 Senses When Creating Art, Whose Responsibility Is It?, Express Yourself, and Let's Get Critical. The Studio Habits of Mind are: Understanding the Art World, Envision, Explore, Developing Craft, Express, and Reflect.
January 2016-We have added 3-D Sculpture to our Centers. 3-D Sculpture may include working with clay, paper mache, plaster gauze, and assemblage (using found objects, recycling, to create new objects.) Our Units of Study for January are Facts vs Opinion and Off the Wall.
February 2016-We have continued with 3-D Sculpture. Some of the projects in the works are: plaster masks-a gorilla, President Obama, a horse, a fish, a dollar bill, a sarcophagus, a rocket ship and more. Some of the paper mache projects are: a dinosaur, a sailing ship, a mummy, a garden gnome, several volcanoes, and bowls. The First Graders made pinch pots and other shapes with Model Magic (c), and with air dry clay-a pomegranate, a cherry, a cup, and several hearts. The "box" projects include Alcatraz, a store, a jail, an aquarium, and some other rooms that are not quite finished. First Graders began a Drawing Like a Scientist unit in which they draw from photographs and then use feedback from their classmates to make improvements. The intent is that students will improve their drawing skills because of the information given to them from their peers.
Early March 2016-I've added four new photos to the collection in the 2015-2016 folder. We are getting nearer to the Orleans Elementary 5-8 Fine Arts Night (March 17) and the K-4 Concert and Art Show (April 6). I will hold off on adding photos until after each of the shows to add to the element of surprise.
